dc.description	<p><strong>BIOS</strong></p> <p>Nancy Gard McGehee is Professor and Head of the Hospitality and Tourism Management Department at Virginia Tech. Dr. McGehee has conducted research in sustainable tourism development for over two decades, working with communities and organizations both in the US and abroad, in such varied locations as Portugal, Australia, and Haiti. She serves on the editorial boards of several top tier journals and is the 2014 recipient of Virginia Tech’s Award for Excellence in International Research.</p> <p>Joelle Soulard is a Ph.D. student in the department of Hospitality and Tourism Management at Virginia Tech, USA. She previously earned her MS in Recreation, Park and Tourism Sciences from Texas A&M University. Her research interests include transformative tourism, social capital, and cultural understanding.</p>

dc.description.abstract	Transformative tourism aims at developing programs which push travelers out of their comfort zones, encourage self-reflection, and trigger attitudinal and behavioral changes. The glocalization concept suggests that global and local forces are not in opposition but could be used by tourism businesses to increase their support in a local community while facilitating the interaction between travelers and residents. The present study explore how glocalization strategies implemented by tourism practitioners could facilitate the transformative experience of the travelers.
