Since the Ohtagawa River in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan, was designated as a 'model river of development of easier upstream migrating fish' in March 1992, Ministry of Construction and concerned organizations are constructing and rehabilitating fishways. In the section under the jurisdiction of the central government, five fishways have been rehabilitated or constructed. This paper reports the status of construction of these fishways and the results of field observations of the migrating fish through these fishways.
