Lodging Information

Lodging at the UMass Amherst Campus:

The HLAW2 conference will be held at the Flagship Campus of the University of Massachusetts Amherst. The Hotel UMass is the most convenient option for those coming from out of town. Hotel UMass features a large number of rooms, as well as a complimentary continental breakfast and access to a fitness center. The hotel is also located in the same building as the parking facilities (available at a discounted rate of $6 per day for hotel guests), as well as multiple dining facilities (listed here) that are part of the nationally recognized UMass Catering services. For conference attendees traveling via public transportation, the hotel is a 5-minute walk on campus from the Peter Pan and PVTA bus station at Haigis Mall. When contacting the hotel, please mention that you are a presenter at the Heritage Language Around the World II conference.

Lodging off-campus:

For guests who wish to stay off-campus, there are two inns located in Amherst town center: Inn on Boltwood and Amherst Inn/Allen House. Both are within walking distance of many restaurants, cafés, and shops in the downtown Amherst area, approximately 1.5 miles from the Campus Center and within minutes of the historic Amherst College campus. The Black Walnut Inn is also located in Amherst, but at a greater distance from the town center. There are no hotels in Amherst. Guests who wish to explore the region may wish to obtain lodging in Northampton, MA, a small city located approximately 20 minutes from campus. We recommend the Hotel Northampton. There are also multiple hotels and motels situated in Hadley, MA, between Amherst and Northampton (mostly on Route 9), and some are available at more competitive rates. Those options are recommended only for people who are driving to Amherst, since there are fewer options for public transportation from those hotels to the UMass campus.
