Dr Mariia Perelygina is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Tourism and Hospitality Management. She obtained her PhD degree from the School of Hotel and Tourism Management at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2020. In addition to teaching and research experience, Mariia has diverse practical experience in the travel industry.

Dr Denise O’Leary is a Head of School in TU Dublin. She is an active researcher, focusing on the areas of collaboration and skills development. She has worked with practitioners within the tourism sector, and across other sectors, integrating action research and action learning into organisation development and team development.

Abstract (150 Words)

This paper focuses on encouraging the growth of a research culture within a school of hospitality and tourism in one third-level institution in Ireland. The aim of the initiative is to increase engagement of staff members in impactful research, leading to benefits for individual staff members and a greater research profile for the school. Taking an action research approach, a plan of initiatives was designed and implemented to develop research culture. The paper examines the phenomenon of changing the organizational culture at the department level in a higher education institution undergoing a large amount of organizational change. The initiative is still underway; hence this paper explores and reflects on the approach, the challenges, and the successes thus far.
