dc.description<p>Whitney Knollenberg, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management at North Carolina State University. Her research focuses on political leadership in tourism, as well as multiple aspects of sustainable tourism development, including the roles of power and partnerships in the planning process.</p> <p>Carla Barbieri is an Associate Professor in Equitable and Sustainable Tourism at North Carolina State University, USA. Her main research focuses on agritourism and rural well-being, topics that she examines using a combination of tourism and sociological approaches. Barbieri also conducts research on sustainable tourism and niche tourism.</p>

dc.description.abstractThis study examines which Community Capitals have aided in the establishment of a craft distilling tourism product in North Carolina. Qualitative data collected from in depth interviews with distillers revealed that Social, Human, Political, Financial, Cultural, and Natural Capital played a role in creating a craft distilling tourism product. The presentation offers discussion of how these Capitals were manifest in this context and managerial implications for investing in these Capitals to sustain the development of the craft distilling tourism product in North Carolina.
